SUPPORTING OUR YOUTH

MOVING FORWARD TOGETHER

Mentorship Program

A mentorship is a relationship between two people where the individual with more experience, knowledge, and connections (the “mentor”) is able to pass along what they have learned to a more junior individual (the “mentee”).

Waano provides a unique mentorship program for youth aged between 14-18. Fourth year University of Alberta students provide mentorship and promote positive emotional wellbeing for mentees. The goal of the program is to provide mentees with various tools, including healthy lifestyle strategies and personal support.

The program focuses on building a one-to-one mentor to mentee relationship that lasts for six months; there are also a variety of activities undertaken, including culturally-related workshops like poetry nights and recreational activities such as basketball, soccer, karaoke, board games, and etc. These activities will help the mentees develop socialization skills and healthy habits and skills like pursuing goals and problem-solving.
